Expectations for Participating Students
We expect that students selected to participate in this program will be present for and participate in 2 of the 4 week lab rotations, the 8-week Safety and Ethics course, and be present for and participate in the full 12 weeks of summer programming.
All students are expected to participate in all scheduled activities of the program. The majority of student time will be spent doing research, but equally important is the Professional Development activities that will include mentoring, exploring careers, and training in leadership and communication. Other requirements include attending the Research Showcase in February and participating in the NCSU Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium. Each week, all participants will meet as a group with the ASSURE team to report progress. All students are expected to be effective team members and respectful of all participants.
This program is aimed at promoting diversity in the food animal workforce. Students who share this goal, especially those from underrepresented minority groups, economically disadvantaged backgrounds, or who are the first generation in their families to attend college are especially encouraged to apply.
We look forward to welcoming you to the ASSURE program for a stimulating, rewarding, and fun experience. Any concerns that affect your ability to fully benefit from the program should be discussed with Dr. Merrill, the ASSURE Program Director.
